Preparing for a hair transplant procedure is just as important as the procedure itself. According to Dr Adam Cho at Gro Clinics Sydney, small changes in the days leading up to surgery can impact comfort, graft survival, and outcomes. Below, he shares three key things to avoid before treatment day.
1. Avoid Caffeine Before Your Procedure
Caffeine is a common part of many people’s routines, but it may affect your procedure. To prepare, consider switching to decaf or caffeine-free drinks 1–2 days before your appointment.
2. Review Any Medications You’re Taking
Certain medications, especially anti-inflammatories and blood thinners, can interfere with the surgical process.
- Avoid aspirin and anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen (e.g., Nurofen) in the week leading up to your procedure
- If you take these medications regularly, speak with your GP or specialist about pausing them 5–7 days beforehand
- Paracetamol is generally considered safe, but always confirm with your doctor
If you’re unsure, our medical team is happy to coordinate care and assist with questions prior to your appointment.
3. Don’t Skip Breakfast on the Day
Hair transplants are long procedures. Eating a balanced breakfast ensures steady blood sugar, which helps maintain comfort and alertness throughout the session.Stick to a light, balanced meal that includes complex carbs, protein, and water—avoid fasting unless medically required.
