Get in the know. A thorough 45-60 minute consultation with a Gro Hair Growth Specialist will give you all the facts you need to make an informed decision, including pricing.

Your big day

Onto the exciting part! A hair transplant procedure will usually be done over one day, or two for larger procedures.

There’s no cutting or scarring involved with the delicate instruments we use, but the area is numbed with a local anaesthetic to minimise any discomfort.

You get to listen to your favourite music during the extraction phase, take a short lunch break and watch Netflix during the implantation phase.

Postoperative care

Now, the waiting game.

Your transplanted grafts will start gro’ing in about 3-4 months after the procedure, but full results can take up to 12 months.

Our team is with you the entire time, checking in regularly and ensuring you’re happy.

What you get with a Gro hair transplant

Your hair transplant journey with Gro is a complete, end-to-end experience. It includes everything from the initial consultation to pre-operative care, your big day in the hands of our unparalleled medical team and aftercare to maximise hair growth.

Over the years, our team has fine-tuned the hair transplant process to yield consistently outstanding results for our clients. The whole process, including the PFP (Precise Follicle Placement) technique in the core of it all, has been tried and tested, so you can feel confident in your choice.

What makes our method different

Not all hair transplants are created equal. Let’s talk about the difference between FUT, FUE and PFP.

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT)

A follicular unit transplant (also called strip surgery) is much more invasive than modern hair transplants. In FUT, a long thin strip of scalp is cut out, typically from lower down on the back of the head. The hair follicles are divided into single units under a microscope. The scalp is then sewn back together where the strip was removed. Because the extraction phase is much quicker, FUT is a cheaper hair replacement method than the alternatives. However, it leaves a significant scar that can be seen under short hair. If you’re prone to keloid scarring, the scar can be very noticeable.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

Follicular unit extraction is another traditional hair transplantation technique. In an FUE hair transplant, a punch is used to make a small circular cut in the skin around a hair follicle or group of follicles, leaving a small open hole. The process is repeated until there are enough follicles to cover the treatment area. In FUE hair transplantation, extraction can be either manual (done by a doctor or technician), or motorised (done by a robot). The manual method causes less trauma to the skin. With both FUT and FUE, follicles are implanted by creating reception holes in the treatment area and placing the hair follicles into the holes with forceps. It allows little control over the angle, direction and depth of the hair. Implantation is normally done by technicians, not by doctors. With FUE, the focus is on the volume of follicles extracted, with little to no emphasis on follicle survival rate or natural-looking results.

Precise Follicle Placement (PFP)

PFP is a fine-tuned, world-class combination of the micro-FUE and direct implantation techniques. A punch with a diameter of less than 1mm is used to extract hairs one by one. Here at Gro, this minimally invasive extraction technique is always performed start to finish by a certified doctor, ensuring high quality and consistency. Our specialty tools are designed to minimise damage to the hair follicle and the skin. Between extraction and implantation, the follicles are kept in a growth solution at a constant temperature to ensure the highest survival rates. The Gro doctors have full control over the depth, direction and angle of each inserted hair follicle, giving our clients natural and undetectable results. There’s no need to create recipient holes in the treatment area with PFP, which allows for higher hair density.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a hair transplant cost in Melbourne?

The cost of a hair transplant at different Melbourne clinics will differ for many reasons, including the provider's experience, quality of service and the results delivered. The hair transplantation technique also matters.

The investment needed will vary from person to person, depending on the extent of the bald or thinning areas and the number of individual hair follicles needed. Different hair transplant clinics have different prices, and our hair restoration prices reflect the quality of our service and results.

For more information on hair transplantation cost, including before-and-after photos with investment, see hair transplant pricing.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, if you’re interested in a payment plan, our team can answer any questions during your hair transplantation consultation, or you can call us on 03 9081 5868.

If you'd like to start treating hair loss but don't have the finances for hair restoration just yet, every dollar spent through your personal Gro Online Care account will accumulate credit towards a hair transplant. Terms and conditions apply.

How long are the wait times for a hair transplant at Gro Melbourne?

Our hair transplant procedures in Melbourne are typically booked out months in advance. For the most recent information on hair transplantation wait times, contact our team on 03 9081 5868.

Alternatively, book a consultation, and one of our specialists will map out the entire timeline of your hair transplant procedure from start to finish.

You may also be interested in exploring Gro Online Care to start looking after your hair now.

Who will do my hair transplant surgery?

It's important to make sure your procedure will be done by a suitable and reputable doctor, not a robot or a technician. At our hair transplant clinics, procedures are done by hair restoration surgeons who have completed rigorous training.

If you have more questions, please don't hesitate to bring them up during your hair loss consultation.

Is an FUE hair transplant the best?

An FUE hair transplant is better than the older FUT hair transplant, but FUE surgery by different providers can still differ greatly in quality.

At Gro, we have refined our hair transplant procedures and developed a method called PFP (Precise Follicle Placement), which leaves no visible scarring whatsoever. It takes the best of FUE hair transplant microsurgery and direct implantation to yield unparalleled results for our clients.

When looking into hair transplant surgery, it's important to research not just methods, but the quality of a provider and the results they can deliver.

Can I visit the hair transplant clinic before choosing to go with Gro?

Absolutely. You can come and visit our Melbourne clinic for a consultation. It helps you to get a feel for the clinic and the team, so you can feel relaxed coming in for hair restoration surgery later.

Do you offer other treatments for hair loss at the Melbourne clinic?

Our hair transplant clinic in Melbourne also offers other non-surgical hair loss treatments, and you can access prescription treatment through Gro Online Care from anywhere in Australia. However, a hair transplant is an unparalleled treatment for growing back your own hair for life.
