What to Expect When You Come Up from Wollongong

The in-clinic steps happen at our Sydney clinic, as we don't have a clinic in Wollongong. The discovery call is by phone, and each follow-up appointment can be online or in person. Travel and time away from the Illawarra sit outside the procedure price, which is the same at every Gro clinic.

The clinic is about 80 km from Wollongong by road, roughly an hour and a quarter up the M1 Princes Motorway, longer in peak traffic. By train, take a Sydney-bound South Coast Line service from Wollongong station to Central, then change to the T4 for a short ride to Kings Cross. Allow roughly 1.5 to 2 hours to Kings Cross, then about 750 metres on foot, downhill along William Street to the clinic.

You leave with detailed aftercare instructions. Temporary redness, swelling or itchiness may occur in the first weeks and typically settles with time, and shedding is expected as part of the natural hair cycle. Early growth may be noticeable from around 3 to 6 months and typically continues to thicken over 6 to 18 months. Individual results vary.

Our hair transplant method is known as Precise Follicle Placement (PFP). It is a refined approach to Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) techniques. PFP involves extracting individual follicles from the donor area and aligning them with the natural angle, direction and spacing of your existing hair. The aim is to create natural-looking hair with density and coverage.

We understand how important the new hairline is, so all hairlines are planned by our doctors. Our process in creating a new natural hairline balances a few factors:

Your hair restoration goals: You will work collaboratively with your doctor on the hairline you have in mind.

Your facial proportions: Your doctor has the expertise to guide the right hairline to suit your face.

Any long-term hair loss: Your hairline will be designed with your underlying cause in mind to support your long-term hair restoration plan.

Designed to Minimise Visible Scarring

We use a refined extraction punch to remove grafts from your donor area with the aim of minimal impact to the surrounding tissue.

Every graft is individually placed using single and multi-implanters, allowing us to control the exact angle, depth, and direction of each follicle. This refined approach to FUE is designed to minimise visible scarring.

A balanced assessment of donor reserves and graft planning

Your donor area is finite and does not renew, so every graft taken from it is spent. Grafts are extracted individually and spread across the area rather than drawn heavily from one region. This approach aims to protect your donor area for future hair restoration procedures.

At your in-clinic consultation, we will do a full scalp health assessment before recommending the number of grafts you may need. We aim to balance your donor area with your transplant goals for long-term results.

Our Corrective Hair Transplant Repair Approach

If you are considering corrective work following a previous hair transplant procedure, an in-clinic consultation may assess suitability.

Your in-clinic consultation will first diagnose what went wrong, such as incorrect hairline design, unnatural angulation, poor density, visible scarring or donor depletion.
